Participants must be between the ages of\u00a0 15,6 – 18,6 years old on the day of departure.<\/p>\n

The AFS Program<\/h3>\n

After your host parents greet you with traditional hospitality, it shouldn’t be long before you feel at home in their open, friendly community. By going to a local high school, you\u2019ll be totally immersed in a new language and customs, and what you learn during the day will be reinforced at night when you spend time with your host family. This is your chance to break out of your comfort zone and join in this diverse and ever-evolving culture.<\/p>\n

Your high school<\/h3>\n

During your time in Hungary you\u2019ll attend a public school called a gimn\u00e1zium, but you could also be placed in a szakk\u00f6z\u00e9piskola (vocational) school.\u00a0 You\u2019ll likely be able to pick from a variety of classes that your school offers, but Hungarian and foreign language courses are required. The school year runs from the beginning of September to early June and is divided into two semesters. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm. Schools often provide some extra activities such as school trips, sports and games, choir, arts, or theater.<\/p>\n

Returning Home<\/strong><\/h3>\n

“Life-changing” is hard to describe, yet it\u2019s nearly always the first thing that AFSers say when asked about their experience abroad.
\n“Transformed” is another one. When you return home, if you\u2019re like most AFSers, you\u2019ll bring with you a sense of accomplishment unlike any other. You\u2019ll have gained maturity and independence, discovered new passions, and feel like you can do anything you set your mind to. That transformation isn\u2019t visible only to you, though – others see it as well. AFSers gain critical skills for college and careers, ranging from language fluency to intercultural competence and critical reasoning.\u00a0“Life-changing” means it\u2019s only the beginning.<\/p>\n
