All applicants who wish to participate in an AFS Interculture Canada program must pay a participation fee and raise funds. Fundraising allows AFS Interculture Canada to reduce costs and offer programs at a lower cost. In addition, by raising funds for AFS, participants enable the organization to fulfill its educational mission by helping to build a more just and peaceful world.
In addition, part of the funds raised are used to award scholarships, particularly to participants from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
The only costs you must pay in addition to the program price are: passport and visa, mandatory vaccinations, glasses and contact lenses, basic dental care, school uniforms (if applicable), stationery and spending money for personal expenses.
AFS absorbs tuition fees under a reciprocal agreement that allows foreign students to attend school free of charge. However, the host family may offer to enrol the student in a private school. In this case, either the host family pays the tuition fees or asks you to share them, if you can.
