AFS in the Schools

Introducing AFS into Your School
Teachers have many options for encouraging participation in exchange programs, including organizing information sessions as well as acting as hosts for students from abroad.

Digital Exchanges
In September 2003 AFS and Global Nomads sponsored a Digital Exchange between 2 schools in Colombia and Panama. The themes were intercultural learning and the 100th anniversary of Panama’s independence or separation from Colombia.

Educational Mission – Achieving Intercultural Learning
AFS sends students to live in a foreign culture for as long as a year. This intense experience helps develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to live in an increasingly global world.

Teacher’s Intercultural Tool Box / Resource Library
We monitor publications, periodicals and websites that relate to the AFS intercultural experience.

Intercultural Research Community
AFS is committed to gauging the impact of intercultural learning experience. A large number of research projects were conducted in the 1980s and now we are taking a new look at the impact of the exchange experience in the 21st Century.
