What are AFS Volunteers responsible for?
There are many ways you can help AFS with your volunteer time. AFS volunteers on a local level help coordinate recruitment, selection, placement, preparation and support activities for AFS participants and host families. Volunteers also help with fundraising and volunteer training and development. Local volunteers also arrange various social AFS activities and events.
Do I need to speak many languages to become an AFS Volunteer?
No, volunteers should speak the language used in the province they are living in. Otherwize, they may find that possibilities for volunteering are more limited.
Speaking many languages is great but foreign students come to Canada to learn English or French, not to speak their own language!
How much time do I need to give to AFS as a volunteer?
There is no set requirement for how much time you give AFS. Some volunteers choose to focus their work on a single activity within their community. AFS welcomes your support and respects your availability.
